Lesson Learned, the Hard Way

You know that beautiful blue mineral streak in your cherry?

Sometimes there's a reason for it.

Hopefully you can find it before your jointer knives do.

  1. Don't you just hate it when that happens...I found a musket ball once, the planer didn't like that either!

  2. At least that's a cool find, rather than an old bent nail. I've had two co-workers and a friend discover bullets in cherry, the soft lead didn't damage the tooling. In one case, the bullet was cut in half to reveal a perfect profile, and as it was in the top of a rustic plank top table it complemented the look.

  3. Do they make tools to find metal in wood? Would a metal detector work?

  4. Ya, there is a dector called the Wizard, and my Bosch stud finder would probably pick it up. Perhaps I should use it, eh?
